Very nice! It reminds me of what is apparently called "jali" in India. A co-worker has a carved elephant similar to this one: http://www.alibaba.com/product-free/101402483/Super_Fine_Woo d_Jali_Elephant.html
Wow, carving that elephant must take ages! Really impressive. We'll see, maybe I'll try a Voronophant next.
I love hand carving as much as the next person, but seeing that photo of the elephant makes me relieved that 3D printing exists, and can eliminate headaches like those. Lovely work, froland!
What I particularly like is that the pattern of the framework follows what could be the exact pattern of the colouring on the giraffe... Glenn
Hey Glenn, actually, it's not a coincidence that I chose a Giraffe. It is exactly because a Giraffe has a Voronoi pattern on its body. Also see here for Voronoi in nature: http://isnm.de/~schmidts/ucsb/voronoi/ Also quite interesting, that the dark spots on the Giraffe skin are used for heat exchange: http://www.giraffeconservation.org/giraffe_facts.php?pgid=5 Have fun!
Okay, I'm done for the day - I learnt my one new thing for this day and now I can just coast... Glenn
This has to be one of my favorite models, terrific job! It looks like it would be fun to paint and now one day I'll be able to impress someone with fun facts about a giraffe's pattern.
