Hi all, I have been chomping at the bit to print some original pieces here since I saw the SW booth at this year's Maker Faire. I worked in the CG animation field for 12 years, but stopped many years ago to do other art related things that I found more fulfilling (as in not having a boss makes me happy). Since I don't want to use bootleg software, I started learning Blender a few months ago, and am pretty happy with it. I would love to know anywhere online to find a lot of info on blender specific use with shapeways. It is a real struggle to have to model for 3d printing compared to animation. Hey Lincoln, here are some Blender related resources on Shapeways.com: https://www.shapeways.com/tutorials/prepping_blender_files_fo r_3d_printing https://www.shapeways.com/landingpages/blender For some general learning information about Blender, I recommend the following free ebook: https://www.blendernation.com/blender-basics-book-3rd-edition / And of course also the Blender wiki: https://https://wiki.blender.org/ There's a number of Blender users here on the forum, so feel free to ask any questions you may have. There's quite a few tutorials on the shapeways site itself: https://www.shapeways.com/tutorials/ Mostly they focus on the differences between modeling for 3D printing and modeling for regular print (or animation, I guess...). The only differences I'm really aware of are that for 3D printing models must be watertight and manifold, but I don't have 12 years experience in 3D, so I might be missing a few things Here's some blender specific tutorials that I found helpful: https://www.shapeways.com/tutorials/prepping_blender_files_fo r_3d_printing https://www.shapeways.com/video/fixing-non-manifold-meshes
Oops, sorry for the redundant post! That'll teach me not to start a reply at lunch time and press submit when I get home from work!
Thanks for the info guys! Hopefully I will have some pieces figured out and ordered soon so I can have a better understanding of the whole process.
