No experience with steel, but think that the thickness check will always mark tapering edges as the voxelization makes it lose structural context. (Think there was some unofficial rule about thin edges not extending beyond twice the minimum thickness or something like this formulated by one of the wizards on the epic "preventing rejections" thread in Suggestions something like two years ago but I believe there was never any official endorsement)
