Download and edit 2D to 3D model?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by denali3ddesign, Nov 4, 2013.

  1. The 2D to 3D app allows downloads of the model. The file format used to be .STL, but now it is an .X3DB. When I google .X3DB, I don't find any programs that can open that filetype...what?!?

Is there a way to download an STL of the model so I can edit before re-uploading and ordering?

  2. Ok, so I found that Netfabb can open .X3DB files and convert them to .STL.

Still would be nice to just download the .STL from Shapeways directly...

From what I remember, this was done to lower the size of the files.
I'll pass it along and ask if we can change it to STL.

Or at least make .stl format a choice when downloading. Thank you, I use it to create quick customized initials and it worked great when I could download
    as .stl.

  6. I see this is an old thread, and when you download a model you made using 2d to 3d wizard, you still only get x3db files, which I have not been able to find any free software to open. There are tons of free 3d modeling software packages out there, and not one of them seems to be able to open this file. Theoretically, they would be able to open stl files. I have tried MeshLab, Blender, and a couple of others, to no avail.

  7. @jenniferchalek Use Netfabb basic

  8. OK I had clicked on netfabb before and only saw paid versions. I finally found basic. Thanks.
