  1. Hi Shapeways,

one simple question: Is it possible to get just the wax models which are normally produced for sterling silver?

    Best wishes

As an alternative you can choose Frosted Ultra Detail material. That material has equivalent detail as the wax printers - except it can withstand shipping. It melts a little bit hotter, around 100C will melt it out, just a little hotter than the wax patterns.

The casting house had problems with burnout when I supplied them with a FUD model. Not sure what temp they used, but they said they had done WSF successfully before.
Interested to hear of others experiences with different materials SW offer..
If not wax...a proven burnout-friendly material would be fantastic :)

These were cast in nickel silver from burning out FUD models. They will need a good polish before they can be used as a patterns for other castings.

Very cool Bill - did you add the gates etc. in the FUD model itself? Were there any issues in the burn-out?

The FUD print was just as you see the casting -- including feeds. The caster was happy to do the work and indicated that they were used to burning out FUD and similar materials.
