THE HISTORICAL COANDA 1910 JET AIRCRAFT
I am marking the 100th anniversary of Henry Coanda's
remarkable invention: his jet-propelled aircraft.
This is the first in a series of historically significant aircraft.

«TRANSILVANIA» REMEMBERED
• One of several studies I made in preparation for a monumental project (on a much larger scale) entitled: «TRANSILVANIA REMEMBERED»; the project is about «TRANSILVANIA» (note the Romanian spelling) the quite famous Romanian passenger ship that was in continuous service from just before WW2 up to the end of Ceausescu's era in Romania; I happen to know a very interesting WW2 true story about events aboard this ship that could very easily be the script for a box office hit movie; more details about this project at a later date • The whole assembly comprising of the ANCHOR, with its CHAIN, leading through the bottle's neck to the floating SHIP inside the partially water-filled BOTTLE, were successfully printed together, as "one part", in White Strong and Flexible by Shapeways; the red ship is an identical copy of the one that is inside the bottle; it was printed separately in Terracotta Strong and Flexible to test its floating ability.

• Based upon the geometry of the Truncated Icosahedron, a.k.a. the Soccer Ball

Shows the duality between Dodecahedron and Icosahedron.
Can be used as a pendant; lanyard not included.

During the late 70's and early 80' I became highly fascinated by Polyhedra and its Duality.
Intrigued by the little known fact that Plato and Archimedes described their wonderful objects by drawing them with just a stick on the sand, I set up to replicate (well, more or less :-) their extraordinary feat by strictly using only a "T" square, a pair of Compasses, a set of 2 Triangles, and a Ruler.
For the next 5 years I practically lived inside Polyhedra (see picture :-) and, what I used to call "The Archimedes' Curse", ended up to be, in fact, "The Archimedes' Blessing"!

The Polyhedral Sculptures depicted below were hand made (from scrap offset plates) and assembled with machine screws from stackable modular pieces. The modules were drawn/designed on a drawing table while strictly using only a "T" square, a pair of Compasses, a set of 2 Triangles, and a Ruler.

Based upon wonderful knowledge I accumulated hands-on during the 1980's while exploring "the extraordinary spatial diversity that emanates from the sublime order and elegant simplicity that is exemplified by the subject of polyhedra." (Quote from the Preface to the wonderful book POLYHEDRA PRIMER by Peter Pearce and Susan Pearce)

I was extremely pleased when, a few years back, Prof. George Hart (Department of Computer Science, Department of Computer Science, STONY BROOK UNIVERSITY) included some of my Polyhedral Sculptures, alongside work by Buckminster Fuller and other great designers in his comprehensive COURSE STUDY: COMPUTER SCIENCE AND SCULPTURE (pg. 39-40, OPRESCO).
