Accused of being fake, witchcraft and simply impossible..
This kinetic sculpture is inspired by the unlimited freedom of 3d printing,
it wobbles and turns with a slight movement of the hand.
Now give it a good spin or puff of air and it erupts in erratic and wild behavior.

This is the 5cm / 2" version, see the Gyro the Forms section for other shapes and sizes.
Corner stand available separately, or get the complete set below!

NEW!
Now also available as a pendant/keyfob!
In both Extra small and Small

Instructions
It is composed of four concentric cubes, each one spinning around a different axis.
The model needs some minor assembly:
Each inner cube has two knobs which need to be placed into the corresponding clamps in the parent cube. It's easiest to start with the inner most and continue outward.
And then... spin it away !

Notes
Do not be alarmed if your cube will not run smoothly at first!
Because of minor variations as a result of the printing process,
some need to wear in a little but will loosen up very quickly.
In the example video I am blowing on it to make it move, it's that smooth.

Be a little careful with (the assembly of) the Alumide version as this material is slightly less flexible/robust than the Strong & Flexible materials.

Get a complete set.
A default set consists of an Alumide Gyro the Cube and a White stand, you can change the materials in your cart later. 118x87_36851_89894_1338413385.jpg + 118x87_387662_147353_1338413388.jpg

The third public evolution of the Animaris Geneticus Parvus. #7 has evolved legs, with pointy feet instead of flat. Featuring a fully working Theo Jansen mechanism as used in his work "the Rhinoceros".
Also see our new Propeller Propulsion add-on, to have your Strandbeest walk autonomously!

The mechanism is printed assembled, and will work without further assembly right after birth from the printer.

A few tips to consider:

- After birth there might be a little powder left in some joints, or it might not go supersmooth. This will fix itself after the animal has a little bit of practice!

- Some surfaces work better than others. The legs require a little friction, and a flat surface. So for example: A rough table or floor, thin flat carpeting, or a thin rubber sheet. It will slip on a too smooth surface.

- The best way to push it is by its nameplate. Do not push down, but forward.

- The beest is light, but quite strong. It can actually be dropped without breaking. It is not a "toy" however, and not suitable for children. The 3D printer material is easy to stain so clean hands are advised.

This is a mobius strip of Level 1 or Super Mario Bros. The whole level is wrapped around itself in a single surface, and poor Mario begins and ends at the same spot every time :(

All the elements from the level are there: every mushroom, turtle, cloud and star. They are all carved out of the surface at different heights, which looks fantastic when you have a light coming from the side, and each block casts a shadow.

It's a great piece to have on your desk, or to hang from a string to let it spin around.

[Note: This propeller propulsion add-on does not include a 3D printed Strandbeest, which should be bought seperately! This propeller does not fit the Ondula version!]

Theo Jansen’s 3D printed Strandbeest continues to evolve with the addition of a Propeller Propulsion system! The 3D printed Strandbeests can now walk autonomously, powered by the wind, just like Theo's full-scale Strandbeests. The new propeller add-on gives new and existing owners of these kinetic sculptures a new way to set them in motion!

The propeller addition is available as a separate kit, which can be mounted on the 3D printed Strandbeests. The propeller is compatible with the various evolutions of the Strandbeest, so existing owners of the “AGP” 5 and 7 model Strandbeests can use it as well. Consisting of 5 main parts, it can be mounted on the Strandbeest body in a few simple steps.
Also see our videos of the Strandbeest Propulsion in action, and the video with mounting instructions.

The 3D printed Strandbeest is sold separately.

A few tips to consider:

- Please look at our instruction video on mounting the Propeller Propulsion add-on, here.

- After mounting the Propeller Propulsion add-on it is best left mounted. Frequent dis-assembly can wear down the material which can result in play on the mechanism.

A 3-dimensional version of the Hilbert space filling curve. As shown in the photos, if printed in one of the "Strong & Flexible" plastics, it can be used as a bracelet or hair accessory. It takes a little time to reform back as a cube after being stretched, but it seems that leaving it overnight does the job.

This must surely be the smallest commercially available 3D puzzle cube in the world.
It is a tiny 7.5 mm across and presents a real challenge to solve and take apart - and not just because of its size.
It is an example of a sequentially interlocking cube which means that it won't fall apart once the pieces are slotted together.

You can find many more interlocking puzzle cubes in the microcubology shop.

The puzzle was inspired by the cover of Elbow's brilliant album, The Seldom Seen Kid.

My third attempt to 3d print a rpg miniature.
I've tried to have fun with the position and the balance of the model. Same as with my other models, i expect some serious detail loss, that's why I've put emphasis on the silhouette of each figure, to make them very distinguishable, even at this scale.

Half Life 2 meets Portal. Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance's best friend, DOG, contemplating the beauty of his new toy, a companion cube. What else could you possibly want? Oh, that's right, Half-Life 2 Episode 3 would be nice...

Gabe, are you listening?

This uses the original texture maps from the game, you can even see the Lambda Half Life logo on DOG's back.

It wasn't easy! I had to remap all the textures manually, and fix all the geometry to make it printable and thick enough to support the weight. I also made most large pieces hollow, but you won't notice that at all (except in the reduced price this provided).

[Note: The seperate propeller does not fit the Ondula version! We are working on a propeller for the Ondula]

Theo Jansen’s 3D printed Strandbeest continues to evolve with an even more elaborate walking mechanism and a centipede-like walking motion. The latest evolution called 'Animaris Geneticus Ondularis' walks on twenty separate legs that move in a wave sequence. This new configuration results in a fluent walking motion, different from its twelve legged predecessors. It incorporates 122 moving parts, showcasing the complexity of mechanisms possible with 3D printed fabrication. It is also slightly larger than its predecessors. The operating principle of 'Animaris Geneticus Ondularis' is based on one of Theo Jansen's original beach walkers, the 'Animaris Ondula'.

Currently there is no propellor available for this version, it is being worked on though!

In the movie we used a piece of cardboard for walking on. Anything will do as long as it's a little rough for some friction!

Inspired by the logo on the cover of Elbow's album, The Seldom Seen Kid, this interlocking 3-piece puzzle is not as easy as it looks. Unlike all my other cubes, which were created in Burr Tools, this puzzle was modelled by hand to give every one of the cubes a bevelled edge. This not only makes it look more like the Elbow logo, it also makes the puzzle even trickier to take apart.

This is my version of the Weighted Companion Cube from Portal. I built the model from scratch, using photos of the cube from the game as reference, then texture mapped it to match the one from the game.

I've made it into a hollow box, which you can use to store small stuff, like keys, secret maps, wedding rings, plutonium, ect.

You should get it printed in Color Sandstone, as it comes completely colored, no painting required! If you really want to paint it, I would suggest you get a "White, Strong, Flexible" print of my other Companion Cube model, as it makes a tougher and more easily paint-able Cube. You will need some form of Glue to put this version of the Cube together as well.

It's hard to see, but I put a faint picture of the Cake inside the box.

Set of 17x 3D torpedo/missile markers suitable for space or air combat games such as Games Workshop's Battlefleet Gothic. This set of markers includes:

 - (2x) 1 torpedo markers
 - (2x) 2 torpedo markers
 - (4x) 3 torpedo markers
 - (2x) 4 torpedo markers
 - (2x) 5 torpedo markers
 - (4x) 6 torpedo markers
 - (1x) 7 torpedo marker

Torpedo markers come unpainted. For those who prefer a black undercoat, Black Strong & Flexible eliminates the need for black primer, as the material is matte and takes paint readily.

Any space ship models pictured above are from Games Workshop (and are obviously not included).

A detailed full color model of each of the first six planets (out to Saturn) and major moons of the Solar system, to (logrithmic) scale.
(Note: the full Solar System set of planets and moons is available as a set here)

All surfaces are reproduced from NASA imaging.
For size reference, Jupiter is 22mm (0.9 inch) diameter, and Earth is 11mm (0.45 inch) diameter.

This set is designed for use in orrery or other models of the solar system, and so to best present all planets while preserving scale, the scale has been compressed - a logrithmic scale instead of a linear scale. This means that if the model of a moon of Jupiter is larger than the model of Mercury but smaller than Mars, then you know that the real moon really is larger than Mercury and smaller than Mars, But the size diference is compressed - Jupiter, which is really more than ten times Earth's diameter, becomes only twice Earth's diameter, etc. This logrithmic scale allows all planets to be clearly visible together, while at the same time still indicating their sizes relative to each other.

The set contains six planets, and nine moons:
[In order of appearance in the photo above, right to left]
Mercury
Venus
Earth
 - Moon / Luna
Mars
Jupiter
 - Ganymede
 - Callisto
 - Io
 - Europa (attempt no landing there)
Saturn
 - rings of Saturn
 - Titan
 - Rhea
 - Iapetus
 - Dione

All objects have a 1.3mm (0.05 inch) hole at the south pole, about 3mm deep, for a brass axle (or a toothpick).

What color is a planet - is it color of its surface materials, or the colour of its atmosphere from space, or the color of the surface being colored by the atmosphere filtering light from the sun? The appearance in this set attempts to be that of the surface with moderate atmospheric influence, (with the gas giants depicted as the atmosphere and surface being the same thing). For example, this means that Venus depicts the features of its surface, but they are tinted somewhat by its atmosphere. Similarly, Earth and Titan show ground features, but some areas are tinted and obscured by atmosphere.

In areas where the model surface is more detailed than the most detailed NASA photography, the overall surface appearance conforms to what is known, but finer textural details are speculative. (Or, if there is an atmosphere, it is shown as particularly thick and opaque over the unmapped area.)

Due to hard limitations of the Shapeways 3D printer, the moon Dione is using the surface map of Rhea. I chose Dione because the surface is very similar to Rhea, and it is the most minor moon in the set. The alternative was simply to remove an object, but I preferred the set to include four of Saturn moons, like it does for Jupiter.

The Earth, Moon, and Mars, to scale, with 3D surface terrain and full color from the latest NASA space imaging.

[See also the solar system set (but note that set is a logrithmic scale, not linear like this one)]

Dimensions:
Earth: 50mm (2 inches) diameter
Mars: 27mm (1 inches) diameter
Moon: 13mm (0.54 inches) diameter

Scale: 1 : 251102362

The Earth and Mars globes are hollow, with a 12mm (1/2 inch) hole at the south pole, giving them a flat bottom on which to sit without rolling, but each also comes with a matching cap/plug to seal that hole, to form a full sphere. (The moon is solid)

Special thanks to NASA / JPL-Caltech, for allowing the use of their planet surface terrain and mapping.

Here are some very famous sci fi shuttle eagle transports from 1970s television. These are the 4 variations in 1/1000 scale, perfect for table top gaming, fleet style gaming. These were designed for WSF material, but I realize some prefer max detail with FUD, so I am keeping that material open for these. But do try to remember FUD is extremely weak and breaks easy. Remember ShapeWays tends to rotate designs in their printing containers, this sometimes changes the details in the appearance of the designs. ***Try some of our other ships to go with these & let us know what you think.*** Down in the comments area, we have a picture shared with us, from modeler Scouls502, Just click the little pic, and it will load the full size picture. Plus one he did for us to post in as the default picture. Scouls502 truely did these designs justice. The level of detail he was able to show in the designs, well we didn't honestly think it would show that well. Scouls502 good on you Sir. Have some cookies. PLEASE RATE THIS MODEL.
