A theorem walks into a bar...
The Klein Bottle is a mathematical joke: a surface with only one side. This one feels just right in your hand and opens bottles with ease and style. Built to last in steel, it's the perfect touch for any math fan's kitchen.

Yes, it really works!

Klein not-a-bottle-opener is here.

Both a tribute to ubiquitous, and lovely, hexagonal colour pencils, and a representation of what was coined by Joris Peels as 'combinatory manufacturing'.

Combine the connector piece with any set of 36 standard hexagonal pencils of about 7.0 mm cross section (measured at the smallest diameter). These types of sets are available around the world from many department stores and art supply stores - I’ve seen good sets for as little as 5 euro.

Examples of pencils that fit are Stabilo Aquacolor 1600, and Caran d’Ache Prismalo I, but there are many more. I’ve recently heard that in the US, Prismacolor Verithin Colored Pencils (available from Amazon and others) work well. Normal black pencils often have the same size and shape and can be used too.

If you are new to the Shapeways website: to order you will be asked to create an account (it's easy). Assembly may leave slight marks on pencils. For more information on this or other products, please visit www.michielcornelissen.com.

(Note: this model was previously erroneously described as bacteriophage T7, which has a different life cycle entirely and looks somewhat different. Sorry! I will update the name shortly after I work out how to preserve a few permalinks. Also, I have removed metal from printing options after a customer's order failed to print; sorry again!)

By request of @TheFrogBlog on twitter, here's a model of Bacteriophage T4 which is somewhat-accurate. Source files are on Thingiverse: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:16496

T4 is a lytic phage which has been studied for years; a bacteria-virus that can infect and destroy E.coli cells within 30 minutes. Here's an excellent animation of T4 infecting an E.coli cell: http://www.seyet.com/bacteriophage-t4
