Accused of being fake, witchcraft and simply impossible..
This kinetic sculpture is inspired by the unlimited freedom of 3d printing,
it wobbles and turns with a slight movement of the hand.
Now give it a good spin or puff of air and it erupts in erratic and wild behavior.

This is the 5cm / 2" version, see the Gyro the Forms section for other shapes and sizes.
Corner stand available separately, or get the complete set below!

NEW!
Now also available as a pendant/keyfob!
In both Extra small and Small

Instructions
It is composed of four concentric cubes, each one spinning around a different axis.
The model needs some minor assembly:
Each inner cube has two knobs which need to be placed into the corresponding clamps in the parent cube. It's easiest to start with the inner most and continue outward.
And then... spin it away !

Notes
Do not be alarmed if your cube will not run smoothly at first!
Because of minor variations as a result of the printing process,
some need to wear in a little but will loosen up very quickly.
In the example video I am blowing on it to make it move, it's that smooth.

Be a little careful with (the assembly of) the Alumide version as this material is slightly less flexible/robust than the Strong & Flexible materials.

Get a complete set.
A default set consists of an Alumide Gyro the Cube and a White stand, you can change the materials in your cart later. 118x87_36851_89894_1338413385.jpg + 118x87_387662_147353_1338413388.jpg

Important notice: a lot of people have been very happy with this product, but, as can be read in some of the comments below, it's clear that this design is right on the edge of what Shapeways can produce to the right quality at this moment. If you buy it, there's a risk of having a less then perfect fit, colors can be different from what you see on the screen, and, depending on how you use your phone as well as the tolerances of the case, it has been reported that the polyamide material can give a sort of polishing/scratching effect on the metal rim of the phone (you can find descriptions online of how to remove these kind of blemishes, but it may still be annoying).
Shapeways has, in my experience, been very good with customer service on this item, so they'll be happy to either return your money or provide a new product if you would be one of the unlucky ones; but it's up to you if you want to run the risk that you may have to go through this process.

Essential protection for iPhone 4S and iPhone 4

Even though 4-4 may be the worlds lightest and smallest iPhone 4 case, it still provides great protection to the vulnerable edges of the iPhones' front and back covers - while all controls and connections remain accessible. Its slightly protruding profile helps prevent protect the glass when laying your phone down; using 4-4 can also help to avoid signal loss problems.

This bumper-style case may be combined with commercially available screen protectors. 4-4 is manufactured from tough and durable 3d printed polyamide; it has a slightly textured surface that gives you great grip on your phone. Available in white, black and limited edition colors - note that in white, the 3d printed material may get dirty more quickly - but you can (seriously!) dishwash this product, so that shouldn't be too much of a problem. The 4-4 case is designed to have a tight fit around for iPhone. To put the iPhone in the case, or take it out, start at one of the bottom corners, where there are no buttons. Colors in the images above are for reference only; please check under 'select material' to get the most up-to-date preview of currently available product colors. Product is shipped in basic Shapeways packaging.

4-4 fits the GSM and CDMA/Verizon versions of iPhone 4, as well as the new iPhone 4S.

A two pack of 4-4's in the same color is available at reduced prices here.

You can have a look at all the products in my shop here. Consider buying 4-4 together with The Wrap, a handy cable winder for the European iPhone charger.

If you have any questions or feedback on this product, please feel free to contact me directly via michiel(at)michielcornelissen(dot)com.

This is a mobius strip of Level 1 or Super Mario Bros. The whole level is wrapped around itself in a single surface, and poor Mario begins and ends at the same spot every time :(

All the elements from the level are there: every mushroom, turtle, cloud and star. They are all carved out of the surface at different heights, which looks fantastic when you have a light coming from the side, and each block casts a shadow.

It's a great piece to have on your desk, or to hang from a string to let it spin around.

An espresso cup specially designed with fins, to ensure the successful deployment of your rocket fuel. All systems are go! Paraboloid bowl holds approximately 1.5 fl oz. or 45 mL. (Note that I previously claimed the cup held 60 mL. While my 3D modelling software still reports that as the internal volume, some combination of the printing process and glazing is robbing me of internal volume. Contact me if you'd be interested in a larger, more expensive 60 mL cup.)

After receiving feedback from Shapeways, I've created a slightly revised model for the cup. I'm told that this model will be easier to print and glaze, leading to a more reliable product. The changes are minor -- it's a little wider, a little heavier, and has more rounding on edges that were previously sharp (a 3D rendering shows the differences above).

Update (April 13th, 2013): The cup has had a great run on Shapeways, and I deeply appreciate the attention and positive feedback it has received. The bad news is that I've got to stop offering it for sale here. The good news is that the cup is now available commercially! It's being manufactured by Fred and Friends, sold under the name "Blast Off! Espresso Cup Set". It's already available for purchase online (perpetualkid.com, thinkgeek.com), and I'm sure you'll be able to find it in your favourite housewares store soon.

There are six regular convex polytopes in 4D, which are analogous to the five Platonic solids in 3D. This is the fifth, the hyperdodecahedron, a remarkably beautiful object brought to my attention by George Hart.

Here it's shown in a Schlegel diagram so you can see all 120 dodecahedral cells, though most are transformed by perspective: in this projection, the only regular dodecahedra are the biggest one on the outside and the tiniest one at the center.

A bigger model is here.

The first public evolution of the Animaris Geneticus Parvus, #5. Featuring a fully working Theo Jansen mechanism as used in his work "the Rhinoceros". The mechanism is printed assembled, and will work without further assembly right after birth from the printer.
Also see our new Propeller Propulsion add-on, to have your Strandbeest walk autonomously!

A few tips to consider:

- After birth there might be a little powder left in some joints, or it might not go supersmooth. This will fix itself after the animal has a little bit of practice!

- Some surfaces work better than others. The legs require a little friction, and a flat surface. So for example: A rough table or floor, thin flat carpeting, or a thin rubber sheet.

- The best way to push it is by its nameplate. Do not push down, but forward

Working centrifugal compressor.

Designed to fit standard Mabuchi 130 motors.

Printed and tested.

Upon receiving the item, you'll need to use a 1.8mm drill bit to drill out the center hole. This is due to limitation of the printing process that may not allow the shaft of the motor to be inserted.

Clothoid.A lamp is created by a mathematical curve formula and then that spline is lofted in 3d CAD software. Resulting form is parametric and adjustable in almost infinite number of combinations.

You can imagine this 3D form as afterimage of one single point in space as it moves, self-intersecting and rotating around, creating this 3D object. Whole shade form is actually one single line... wrapping around itself. Whole 3d printed light shade is created in one piece.

This lamp is available for purchase now on Shapeways. What you will get from Shapeways is 3D printed lamp shade only.

NOTE: Lamp base will be sent separately. Use "contact designer" button on upper right of this page... or send us e-mail to > info (at) alienology.com

Phamora Ceramics!

Is inside out? Or is it not? Perhaps both?
This is an Amphora from another space-time.
An ancient object which we knew had to exist.
And after years of excavation in other dimensions we finally found it!

A very exotic vase with a unique near-impossible shape, suitable for use with dry flowers and striking enough to stand alone.
Theoretically it can also hold water in the toroidal bottom part, read practical details below.

Very suitable as a wedding gift to symbolize love and infinity.
The number eight (or sideways infinity) plays an important role in this piece,
both in the number of arms and the cross-section of this model.

Notes:
To improve print quality and after some deliberation with production, this model has been slightly updated on August 24th 2012; The arms have been thickened and the holes enlarged to improve strength and glazing.
Still I recommend not to put a lot of stress on the handles.
Refer to rendered images for the latest version. I will update photo's asap.
The bottom it stands on, is unglazed, which is invisible during normal display.
All clearly visible parts will be fully glazed, but there is a chance some parts on in the inside might not, which may compromise it's ability to hold water.
While production does their absolute best and all recent prints turned out perfectly glazed and hold water, due to the complexities involved, there is no 100% guarantee for to be absolutely watertight.

A hanging cup for your double espresso the morning after ;-)
It's in such a state that it cannot stand on it's own, so it really needs some support.
Luckily it has :-)
When you order, you will get the Hangover cup and the matching stand in glazed ceramics.

Printed Ceramics
With the current process, the round bottom on the cup will likely show some minor pits in the glazing from a small tripod it stands on during the baking.
And the bottom of the stand/saucer has rougher structure.
The rest of the glazing is fully covering, so it's safe to drink from.

Also available as a more sober version (standalone)

The cup is designed for a double espresso(60 ml), but can hold a maximum of about 90 ml.

Check out this photo of black version here

arDrone 2.0 bracket for GoPro 1 & 2 cameras
NOT COMPATIBLE with GoPro HERO3 - New design will be available shortly.

NEW click here for GoPro Hero3 mount for arDrone 2

This is 5 parts which must be cut appart before installation.
Instructions for installing the mount on your arDrone https://vimeo.com/55233318

EDIT - just added the extender to this product, it is two parts, put foam between them to lower the camera and further reduce vibrations.

I have some video on Vimeo, this was shot in WINDY conditions and look pretty bad, but you get the idea, as soon as the weather in LA improves for flying small copters, I will be updating the video. www.vimeo.com/41468132

GoPro Hero2 - I recommend cutting a disc of Lee Filter 9ND-P3 and sticking it under the glass on the protective cover as that will reduce the shutter speed and practically eliminate jello.

GoPro Hero1 - have slower shutterspeed and don't suffer as much from jello as hero2, but you can also use ND film to further reduce jello if required.

All kinds of precautions apply to this product, Im not responsible for your flying of this. or what you may do to your arDrone or GoPro camera... if somebody print this in red, do send me some pictures.

NOTES on getting beautiful video with arDrone-GoPro combinations. First, you MUST understand that even the arDrone 2.0 is under powered for wild flying. to stay in the air it must use power to force air down.. when you hang a GoPro under it, the battery empty faster because it use more power.
NEXT, understand moving, happens by the drone tilting, so it essentially is "sliding down a hill" by being at a angle.. so now to keep the same altitude the motor must work even harder.
Combining the sliding down a hill motion and the weight of the GoPro, means you are operating at the limit of what is possible with a arDrone. as a result the props and motors work hard creating lots of vibrations and shaking.
The solution is flying EARLY in the morning, when the air is cool and there is absolutely no wind or even a breeze, in completely still air, the arDrone do not need to compensate for wind and will fly much more stable and smoothly, and the motors will have less work to do, resulting in less vibrations. Early morning flights is key to getting amazing beautiful video from a GoPro mounted under a arDrone. There.. NOW you know. Happy Flying.

This sale include all parts required to mount you GoPro, arms and the adjustable cradle, it do NOT include arDrone, GoPro, GoPro protective lens.
