CAUTION: THIS IS ONLY THE SPHERE CORE!! This a spherical core for Mefferts' Mosaic Cube, designed by me. Several people have noticed that the mechanism is a bit "spongy". The issues are illustrated by Roxanne Wong in this YouTube video.

The cause of this spongyness, and the resulting less-than-optimal turning, is the large cavity inside the puzzle into which the pieces are pushed. Twisty Puzzle Forum contributor Burgo suggested to fill the cavity with a spherical core. This new spherical core fills the cavity completely, making the puzzle more stable.

Plugged Dice is a 60x60x60 mm cube puzzle (same size as Rubik's). It was suggested by Fred Horn. The object is to insert the eight plugs. This is quite a puzzle as each plug can be inserted in many ways, but the whole fits only in one way. The puzzle comes as a kit. When you buy it, you'll have to paint the cube yourself (I typically use a bath of acid-based clothing dye), and glue in the five dots.

Magic Gears is a paradoxical set of three identical gears that can both mesh in the regular way and all in the same direction. It was inspired by this YouTube video by Jacques Maurel. Maurel writes: "The paradoxical 2 teeth gear set is used in the 'Mercier differential' (using the torque transfer technology) Patented in 1988 by Renault". Oskar's addition to the work is making Chevron Gears as invented by Andre Citroen. This way the three gears become identical and they can both mesh classically and paradoxically.

I have performed this Magic Gears "trick" to several friends, family and colleagues. I get two types of reactions: "wow" and "so what". Apparently, there exist people who are not aware how gears are supposed to mesh :-).

Bram's Cube is an idea by Bram Cohen to add eight gears to a 2x2x2 Rubik's Cube. When the top is turned by a quarter, the gears turn by one eight. For solving this puzzle, not only the 2x2x2 has to be turned to its correct position, but also the gears. This gives a classical puzzle a whole new dimension.

Mixup Cube is like a Rubik's Cube, but with an unexpected twist. When a mid plane is turned by 45 degrees, other turns are possible. This way of turning mixes up the center and edge pieces. Although the concept has already been patented in 1985 by Sergey Makarov, this version has an internal 2x2x2 "cube" for extra stability.

Geared Mixup is a twisty-puzzle design requested by many people. When playing the original Gear Cube (Caution Cube), players can only make half turns because of the gears. Many people tried quarter turns in vain. Now it is possible, by combining the Gear Cube and Mixup Cube concepts. Geared Mixup has eight geared corners that drive twenty small 4-teeth gears.

Gear Shift is based on an idea by Bram Cohen. This puzzle has eight gears around a cube. All gears can turn together. But it is also possible to pull the gears apart in two sets of four. Each set of four can be turned individually. And there are three ways to split the gears. The object of this puzzle is similar to Rubik's Cube: scramble it and then try to solve it.

Fadi Cube is a twisty puzzle like Rubik's Cube. It is an attempt to use other than conventional slices to make a twisty puzzle. At first sight, it looks impossible to twist this puzzle at all. But the pieces go over and under each other to make it possible. According to Bram Cohen, the closest "relative" of Fadi Cube is Katsuhiko Okamoto's Lattice Cube.

Big Boulder is a blatant case of twisty puzzle extremism. 1 core, 60 centers, 140 corners and a whopping 150 edges. That is a lot of pieces. And to make it more complex, this puzzle jumbles too, which means that some moves may be blocked by other pieces. This puzzle is based on the geometry of a Pentagonal hexecontahedron. You may want to look that up on Wikipedia. The object of the puzzle is to scramble it and then solve it to a state where each color only touches itself or black.

Jack's Cube was suggested by Jack via YouTube. The design was inspired on the Magic Sphere puzzle. Jack's Cube has three types of moves. First there are the conventional Rubik's turns. Secondly, a circle of nine pieces can turn in steps of 90 degrees. Finally, a great circle of 12 pieces can turn in steps of 30 degrees.

Cooksey Maze is a maze concept invented by an Englishman named "Mr. Richard Cooksey" in the 1970's. An evolved metal+plastic version with springs and pins was prototyped by Pentangle, but it was never taken in production. Oskar has been trying to locate Cooksey for quite some time, as the original "Cooksey Cilinder" has been an inspiration for many of Oskar's puzzle designs. This is a modified version of the original Cooksey Cylinder with a much simplified mechanism.

Earn a free Cooksey Maze if you can bring Oskar in contact with the original inventor of this maze concept. We know nothing more than his name, the fact that he is an Englishman, and that he already was an adult in the 1970's. Also the people who operated Pentangle in the 1970's do not have more identifying information.
