Kraken / Eldritch D20
Nvenom8 With regard to print quality, there have evidently been some changes to the production process since I initially made this product, and I do not have full knowledge of what they are. The issues that exist seem to be with the colored nylon (versatile plastic), and I think they stem from a non-optional polishing step. They sometimes come out excellent and sometimes very bad, as a few commenters here have found. The issue is inconsistent, and there's not much I can do to fix it other than making those materials unavailable. The nylon has always been an option for this product as a budget alternative to the more expensive higher-quality materials and processes. People are upset when I offer only premium options, but are also disappointed by budget options sometimes. I wish the material renders didn't oversell the detail of nlyon so much, but that is beyond my control (the site auto-generates them). The best budget option for this die was a material that is no longer offered by Shapeways, and I have no viable way to do it on my own. Customer service may be able to help you if you received a particularly bad-quality print.
Nvenom8 @MHFD Oh wow! That came out beautiful! This is exactly why I made BHDA the new default material!
Nvenom8 @ifreedman Short answer: steel is "impossible" for this product. As you can see, working prototypes were made, but these were later deemed infeasible to produce.
Nvenom8 @ifreedman Yeah, I agree with you. The previews for standard nylon do oversell the level of detail a bit. On the other hand, the black hi-def acrylate is amazing. Just got in a prototype, and will have actual photos of it up soon.
Nvenom8 @wuerfel I'm due to go through my whole store and rewrite a lot of my content. Especially in light of some recent site changes, house cleaning is in order. It is on my agenda to get this version printable in steel again at some point, but that will require some careful adjustments so that the product itself is not fundamentally altered.
Nvenom8 @ilostthecure That's precisely how it works. I try to design to specs that theoretically will allow printing in a wide variety of materials, but sometimes they are deemed unprintable after actual testing. If I had to recommend a material of those available on this product, I would suggest either the premium metals or the Ultra Detail plastic for the best quality print, and the normal strong and flexible plastics if you're on a budget and don't want to invest much.
Nvenom8 @ilostthecure I would love if that were possible, but as it stands currently, reuploading and trying that again may actually result in other materials becoming unavailable. It remains on the list of things I would like to do, but the risk would be substantial.
Nvenom8 @Jmamacat Hearing that really brings a smile to my face :)
Nvenom8 @Jmamacat The painted example in the comments below was actually one of my customers painting a frosted detail print. He did a fantastic job! If you're looking to paint one up with anything other than a solid color, look at tips for miniature painting. Tabletop wargames like Warhammer or Warhammer 40k have a devoted player base with as much experience and advice as you could ever want. Your local hobby shop probably has some supplies you could use and some people who know how!
Nvenom8 @AreklaMcGregor It was originally, and it may be again. I am working with the production team on this possibility. It is my preferred material for the die, and I would very much like to have it available again.

Nvenom8 @pllp This isn't the exact same place I got my info originally, but it agrees with what I did: http://www.forodrim.org/daeron/teng-num.pdf I think the places I originally got my info might be down now. It has been a few years. Most places you look will say the same, though.
Nvenom8 @DaiseeC Aww, thank you! It always makes my day to hear that people like my designs! I hope your friend loves it!
Nvenom8 @achilleiadeidamia Maya has a "bevel plus" tool that works fairly well for converting styled text to geometry as long as the character doesn't have any negative space in it (like the hole in an "O"). For situations with negative space, it was necessary to make the letters from shapes and from pre-existing characters that did not have negative space. Thanks for the compliment BTW!

Nvenom8 @SonidZero This version has been printed in metal many times with great success. The smaller scales have been tested in standard stainless steel, and have worked, but they have only been printed a few times. If you're after tried and true, this is probably the scale you want.
