Inspired by the complex forms of radiolarians, where intricate pattern is integral to structure, these shapes derive from a simulation of spring meshes. We created interactive software to morph, twist, and subdivide each design, transforming a simple mesh to a complex patterned structure.

While provocatively curved, she is indeed very shy!
She only allows a glowing glimpse of what she holds inside.

Dice Template
These are the 5 platonic solids to be used as dice template.

You can download them freely and modify them.
If you want to order this set of platonic solids as they are, there is no markup: you just pay for the material (as usual, shipping is free for any order of $25 or more).

In order to reduce the cost, they are hollow, with a tunnel joining the internal shell to the external shell. This tunnel is meant to prevent the automatic repair tool of Shapeways from removing the internal shell. But it is small enough to be invisible and to keep the support material inside.
The thickness of the models is 1.5 mm which is thick enough for Strong and Flexible materials, Details materials and Alumide.

A Youtube tutorial on how to hollow a die is also available.

This is the smallest version producible of the Nobbly Wobbly ball I designed in 2000. It is 9/16 inch or 14.5 mm in diameter. All six loops are loose. Shown here are alumide and polished silver. They are very light and can be worn as a pendant or earrings or beads. For the sterling silver version see Silver Nibbly Nobbly.

This is a cubic interpretation of the classic trefoil knot.

These are not links; it is a single, looping (in a cubic sort of way) structure.

There is also a 50mm version available.
And a pendant version, here: Cubic Trefoil Knot Pendant.

Check out additional models of knots and torus knots in my Knots section.

Simple but pretty shape. Rather small: the 2×2×2 cm measurement is from corner to corner; the faces themselves are closer than that.

The gyroid is a famous triply periodic minimal surface discovered by Alan Schoen at the end of the 60s. The gyroid separates space into two identical labyrinths of passages.

Although it's hard to tell at a glance, this version is not the usual pseudo-gyroid trigonometric isosurface. It is a true tension minimized gyroid, built using "Surface Evolver" (by Ken Brakke). It has been optimized to be printed in 5 cm dimension at reasonable cost.

This model was created with open source software. K3Dsurf, Blender, Meshlab, and FreeCAD. Color was added according to curvature.  The size of this model is about 5 cm across.  A thinner version without color can be found here: 3D Gyroid No color thin walls.

A 3D projection of the 8-cell (Hypercube), one of the 6 regular polytopes in four dimensions.

4D Polytopes (or polychora) are the 4-dimensional analogous of the 2D polygons and 3D polyhedra.

Regular polychora are composed of a finite set of cells (polyhedra), all regular and alike, surrounding each edge in an identical way.

We cannot see a 4D polytope, but we can project it in 3D (in the same way as we make a flat drawing of a polyhedron).

The 8-cell is composed of 8 cubes.

This is a parallel projection of the polytope, in which no edges intersect each other, but some cells do (for example the two regular cubes). The edges are all the same length.
