Stone Portal Fleet

The Stone Portal Escort Cruiser is designed to protect the ships of the fleet from fighter and missile attack, particularly the otherwise-vulnerable Dreadnought. It does so with a host of defenses, including a series of point-defense missile racks and short- and long- range version flare-beam rotary point-defense arrays.

General Designs Hulls

The destruction of Solarwolf Shipyards a decade and a half ago was a great loss. A high-tech independant company, their most famous design was the Devastator Heavy Cruiser, which was nearly as popular as it's GDH counterpart. While not as easily modified as the Deltas, it had the advantage of using the latest technology, on a par with the major powers. Since that tragic event, the existant Devastators have been slowly lost due to attrition or cannibalised for spares. Most now serve in second-line operations or as merchant convoy escorts where they are at low risk, for it is becoming increasingly difficult to replace the damaged parts.
Now, however, at the behest of the Herosine Empire, General Designs Hulls has used the same retro-engineering used on the Cybertank Assimilators to create the Delta hull series. The first of the new hull series is the Devastator II Heavy Cruiser. Slightly larger than the original Devastator, it can perform the same mission profile. While GDH technology isn't quite as advanced as that of the major powers or Solarwolf Shipyards, the newer GDH design uses standard components, meaning, like all GDH vessels, it is much easier to configure the basic hull and to repair and maintain. Already, aside from the Herosine Imperial Fleet, GDH has had several orders from powers, both major and minor, to replace their now aging Devastator hulls.

The Shadowfang Frigate is a solid mainstay of the Aotrs fleet. Manouverable, well-protected and carrying a good offensive load, the Shadowfang is a good all-round vessel. It is armed with four fixed-foward coldbeam cannons, and several various coldbeam point-defense weapons. The lack of non-foward weapons is the vessel's biggest limitation, but it's superior speed and agility compensate for this significantly.

Cybertanks

The most common Cybertank configuration encountered, the Resistor I configuration is the archetypal Cybertank. Like all Cybertanks, it is not a vehicle per se, but rather a grav-tank-shaped technological sentient creature. Albeit one that is evil and without any redeeming traits. The Cybertanks do not seek conquest, but the simple extermination of all life that is not themselves; be they organic, technolgical or otherwise. (Or even Undead...) It is possible to reason with a Cybertank, as they are intelligent , for a given value of "reason". The Cybertanks have occasionally allied with other evil forces, but these alliances break down before long, as the Cybertanks simply revert to their natural state, which is to "ELIMINATE ALL ORGANIC LIFEFORMS!" (Sic).

The Cybertanks are, in theory, quite intelligent, and have a certain cunning. They certainly possess entirely understandable emotions, being far from emotionless machines. While they have a certain preference for logic, even that is only a tendancy. What they do seem to lack is any form of empathy or compassion of any kind. They hate though, and hate well, though the second most common emotion seem in them from outsiders is their noted tendancy to panic if things go wrong, and shout a lot.

It should, of course, be noted in passing with their computer minds, energy weapons and advanced targeting systems, the accuracy of the Cybertanks is legendary, in that no other race can miss so badly or so often. It is perhaps unfortunate that the larger targetting computers of their starships actually manage to migitate their own utter incompetance. But on the ground, it is often said - only half in jest - that the safest place to be when a Cybertank is shooting is the spot they are aiming at.

If it were not that their home system is easily the most hevaily defended in the known galaxy, they would have been wiped out long ago by the collected efforts of everyone in the galaxy. As it is, given it is estimated that within that veritable Dyson's Sphere of defences, there are more Cybertank ships than have ever been built by all the human powers combined since the invention of space travel, even attempting such and endeavour would be literal suicide. Those maruading fleets that form the Cybertank Incursions are literally nothing more than a drop in the ocean, excess waste. (It has even been suggested that the Incursion are just excess population, embarking on lemming-like attacks on the rest of the galaxy.) Fortunately, the Cybertank's natural paranoia keeps them from exploiting this fact and wiping us all out. As has been said so many times before, they are "tactically clever, strategically dumb." A fact for which we should all be profoundly grateful.

This is a 1/144 scale grav tank, though equally could be used at 15mm or even 25/28mm (or even 1/300 if you want to go nuts!)

Incandescent Outrage Heavy Tank

The Incandescent Outrage is the heaviest vehicle in common usage. A heavy tank in all senses of the word, it combines enormous firepower with good mobility and excellent protection. Virtually impregnable while it’s shields are powered, the Incandescent Outrage’s armour is considerable.

It is armed with no less than four fixed-forward lazer cannons. The main turret holds an enormous lazer cannon, with a PD lazer turret sat atop that. However, the most notable feature are the two sponson turrets. Each one not only holds a powerful lazer cannon in its own right – as powerful as the main gun of the Magma’s Ire - but it’s own generator and back up, independent of the rest of the tank. This means, short of the total destruction of the hull, that the sponson turrets can continue to fire, even after the rest of the tank becomes inoperable. There are incidences of the main tank being disabled, but the victors being wiped out by the sponson turrets in their moment of triumph, and the tank being used as an impromptu fortification thereafter.

However, all this makes it a cumbersome flier when acting in VTOL mode, at best.

Warp Dynamics (Naval division) WDN-114 Cataphract Class Dreadnought

The WDN-114 Cataphract is the largest design built by Warp Dynamics. The construction and design period was plagued with problems and setbacks. The final WDN-114 was larger and heavier than expected, but unusually, the WDN designers had under-equipped it with weapons. The drives actually drew considerably less power from the massive power core thahn was expected; partly because the drives were 8% more efficient than expected, but also due to the power core providing considerably more power than predicted. The second prototype was thus able to add several more hyper-ray blisters and even two ultrabeams either side of the nose module.

The production model of the Cataphract is somewhat ungainly in appearance compared to some of it's smaller breathen (Warp Dynamics have never been know for their elegance), but for a ship of it's size, the Cataphract has enormous manouverability and agility, as much as many smaller destroyers. The dreadnought is armed with a wide varity of weapons, including the aforemention ultrabeams, hyper-rays and astrobusters, supplemented by particle pellet guns and light hyper-rays for point defense and a double-tap torpedo tube with thirty torpedoes and five probes.

The original prototype eventually found function as a command vessel, the excess power and space being used to fit no less than three Dewhurst D504 Electronics Warfare suites and several larger communications arrays, forming into a command and communications vessel, designated WDN-114C.

Jalyrkeion Hierarchy

The 33RLG-9 Swebayen Command Vehicle is one of the older designs in the Jalkyrkion Hierarchy Army, and has been refitted several times. As a designated command vehicle, it is not a main combat unit, and so does not share the usual Jalyrkieon vehicle’s streamlining, being essentially an armoured box. But, even so, it capable of making a fair turn of speed, and has the typical booster system of all Jalyrkeion vehicles.

The Swebayen’s primary job is local command and control, for which it is well equipped with good sensor and communications arrays, and a solid ECM suite. It has an extensible sensor mast, giving it a safe way to aquire it’s own sensor locks for both itself (and it’s primary weapons of twin TOO-1 Tonsha Missile Launchers) and it’s subordinate vehicles.

For secondary weapons, it has two side-mounted, retractible phased-plasma cannons for close defense, and two phased-plasma point defence arrays for anti-missile and anti-infantry defense.

It is, however, not heavily armoured, and so generally sits in a safe location at the perimetre of the engagement location.

Hawkings Astronautics (Military) HAM-119 Spider Wasp Destroyer

The HAM-119 Spider Wasp Destroyer is an iconic ship of the SSA fleet, being commonly sighted in promotional material and recruitment drives. The Spider Wasp is a solid destroyer, capable of operating well at long or short ranges. With typical SSA high-power engines, the Spider Wasp carries four particle pellet cannons and a series of hyper-ray blisters. A single small torpedo tube in the nose rounds out the anti-ship weaponry. A dozen light-calibur particle pellet guns provide anti-fighter and anti-missile defense. The distinctive "spine" of the ship is formed from the communication array, especially enhanced for recieving telemetry from the quartet of probes in the torpedo bay.

The Spider Wasp one one of the earliest designs for the SSA's current fleet, and is a reliable vessel held in high regard by it's crews.

Extra-Galactic Alien

Very little is known about this vessel. It shares the nearly-featureless mirror sheen of the aliens vessels and like all of the vessel encountered, has a hull almost impervious to scans. The four ridges on the vessel are are thought to be some kind of weapon array, though equally they could be radiators or sensor strips. The purpose of the thre "horns", seen on other alien vessel in a similar formation, is completely unknown, though they do not appear to be weapons in themselves. Like all the alien vessels, this destroyer appears to move under a form of gravitic drive, as no drive lights visible. This is presumably housed in the bulb at the rear of the vessel, though again this is purely guesswork.

Cybertanks

The Resistor II is almost as common a configuration of the Cybertanks as the Resistor I, and both are the iconic configurations whose image is conjured up when the Cybertanks are referred to. Resistor IIs have a smaller particle laser than the Is, but this is supplemented by a mass driver gating. The pyramidal structure at the top emits a smaller particle laser, serving both missile defence and anti-infantry. Two turret smoke dischargers are mounted on the turret, one either side.

Like all Cybertanks, the Resistors share their omnicidal nature and staggering racial arrogance; and mercifully for the rest of us, their utter inability to hit anything, despite their advanced targeting systems and use of energy weapons. Because of their abundance, we know more about the Resistors than any other configuration. Internally, their technological phyisology is as different from that found in their starships and buildings (i.e their constructed technolgy) as ours is from our own, and is highly complex, and seems more "grown" than "built". And the re are further mysteries. For example, the Cybertank's particle laser technology found on board their starships seems derived from their own bodily weapons, but are subtly different in a way that a conventional tank and shipboard weapon are not; i.e. they are not quite simply different sized versions of each other.

This all lends credence to the Cybertank's claim they evolved into these vehicular forms naturally. Despite the extreme improbability of these claims, no-one has yet found any evidence to prove otherwise. The truth - if it still exists - lies buried under the surface of the Cybertank's homeworld of Metalyka, where none but Cybertanks have ever stood.

This is a 1/144 scale grav tank, though equally could be used at 15mm or even 25/28mm (or even 1/300 if you want to go nuts!)

Army Of The Red Spear

The Shadowfang was one of the earliest ships of the current generation, and after fifteen years of advancement, there have been many improvements. Unlike the Frostbeam A, which was a refit applied to all existing models, fine tuning the weapon systems, the Shadowfang Mk II is a new model, adding in new technology, but not making changes severe enough to warrent a new class. The Mk II hull is 20% more massive, but it maintains the same mission profile. Most of this extra mass is due to the enlargement of the coldbeam cannons, which have been increased in power and range by 33%, giving the Mk II even better firepower. Numerous additional point-defence systems have also been added, which enmasse somewhat compensate for the main cannon's poor firearcs. The first Shadowfang Mk IIs are now being delivered to Aotrs fleets.
