Designer Spotlight: Paul Liaw

This week we are featuring Paul Liaw of NeoNouveau. An incredibly talented modeler, Paul’s shop shows off some insane detail, from dainty bracelets to a giant faux taxidermy Rhino head. His shop is one we really can’t stop staring at.

Tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? Where are you located?
I am a NY based, digital sculptor. I make creatures for television and film – I just finished working on the upcoming Jurassic Park. I am also a semi professional chef.

This week, we are highlighting Dan Foley of D&O Designs! Dan’s shop is full of intricate, beautiful celtic designs. The complex designs pair perfectly with 3D printing, and give Dan a chance to take a break from technical engineering and focus on his artistic side.

Tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? Where are you located?
I’m a professional engineer and 3D designer located in Davenport, Iowa. I have a beautiful wife and three children. The “O” of D&O Designs is for my son, Owen, who is learning to be a 3D modeler.

Designer Spotlight: Sun Yoon

This weeks designer spotlight focuses on Sun Yoon, a designer inspired by bones and skeletons (perfect for Halloween), and lets her professional animation skills translate to creating a world of fun and fantastic products for her Shapeways Shop, Spooky Bulldog.

Tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? Where are you located?
I’m an artist located in the Los Angeles area. As I was growing up in Korea, I was a huge fan of anything animated. This lead me to study abroad at the Calarts character animation program. Now, I’m an animation industry professional by day and the creator of my own fantasy world by the night.

Designer Spotlight: Kerbal Space Program

This week we are highlighting a well-known shop who has used Shapeways to make their beloved game, Kerbal Space Program, come to life! Based in Mexico, it takes a team to build the wonderful world of the Kerbal Space Program. We’re hearing from Dan Rosas, one of Kerbal’s 3D artists.

Tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? Where are you located?
The home of Kerbal Space Program is in Squad, Mexico City. Squad is an indie developer that started small, and is right now in active development of KSP. I have been on the team for almost three years, and currently lead the team developing in-game assets. My work consists mostly around the Kerbals, whether they are used in graphics, animations, or being 3D printed by Shapeways, and it’s my responsibility to make them (suffer) have interesting stories.

This week we are highlighting jewelry manufacturer Peter Morfino! Peter specializes in the traditional jewelry department, but has expanded his expertise to experiment with 3D modeling. His shop, The Peoples Jeweler, is full of lovely jewelry including pendants and awesome, unique midi rings!

Tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? Where are you located?
I am a gold and platinum jewelry manufacturer. I sell wholesale to retail jewelers all across the country. My alter ego however is The Peoples Jeweler! This gives me the chance to offer my jewelry directly to the public, and to eliminate the middle man!

Designer Spotlight: John Fitzpatrick

This weeks designer spotlight highlights John Fitzpatrick – web developer by day, 3D modeler by night living in Brooklyn, NY.

Tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? Where are you located?
I have a Bachelor of Science degree from the The University of Cincinnati which is one of the best design schools in the world. I have designed mobile phones for Ericsson GE, refrigerators for Frigidaire as well as emergency medical devices for the Long Beach Medical Group. At one point in time, I could walk into a Best Buy and see a cell phone, refrigerators and dozens of DVDs that I had worked on with a team of really smart and great people. I am a web developer by day at KBS+, 3D modeler by night that lives in Brooklyn, NY.

Designer Spotlight: Dimitris Fotiou

This weeks designer spotlight highlights Shapeways Crew member, Dimitris Fotiou. As a trained sculptor, Dimitris formed his Shapeways shop, Thingfuture, as another artistic outlet with a new medium. A self-taught 3D modeler, his shop is full of beautiful and intricate designs from rings to gadget accessories.

Tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? Where are you located?
I am an artist who comes from a sculptural background and lots of classical studies in the field of Fine Arts. I see 3D printing technology as the kingdom of ultimate tools. Access to that kingdom makes any design I dream of possible, it’s like making the impossible real. I live and work in Athens, Greece.

I’m a bespoke furniture designer living in London. One day Shapeways will have a printer big enough for me to send them my furniture designs, but in the meantime, I’m really enjoying being forced to ‘think small’.

This week we are highlighting Brian Richardson. This incredibly unique shop proves just how far imagination and 3D printing can go together. Whimsical and fascinating creatures fill Brian’s shop and are so well done, you can hardly tell they’re printed.

Tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? Where are you located?
I’m a designer, illustrator and 3D modeler located on Long Island, New York. My shop Mythic Articulations provides all kinds of mythical creature and cryptic skeletons. And a few plants. I’ve had experience with all manner of sculpting including clay, metalworking, and woodworking, but 3D printing is by far my favorite method for producing sculptures.

Tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? Where are you located?
My name is Austin Robey and am located in Brooklyn, NY. I have an academic background in architecture, a professional background in designing jewelry and accessories, and now have a studio called 3D NYC Lab, which helps people realize fun and inventive product ideas through digital design and 3D printing. As a side project from our 3D design services, we wanted to make a Shapeways store of some fun products we designed. It’s called Good Custom Goods.
