I'm certain somebody else has asked this and been answered, but I can't find it, so I'll ask again: When will this be applied to models we upload? What are the limitations of metal printing? And what's the cost compared to good old "Strong and Flexible"? x5? x10? If you have to ask you can't afford it?

I got a rat model which I'd happily pay x5 the cost for in metal, but maybe not x10.

Walter,

We do not know yet when we can offer it to all the models.

The limitations are that not all models that we can print in the other materials can be printed in metal printing. It also requires a minimum wall thickness of 3mm.

Cost would depend on a lot of factors but in this case we'd hope to be more in the "five times" bracket than ten, but again I can not promise anything yet.

Will you be upgrading your testing software to find out if a model is lacking a minimum thickness? It's rather hard to measure on my end, with character models.

This is exactly what we are looking at at the moment. We don't know yet how long this will take and if it is feasible.

I am incorrect here when I state that minimum wall thickness has to be 3mm. This is only the case for the Ringpoems because the area where the letters join each other is so small.

Hello Joris,

Just got the Shapeways newsletter concerning the metal print. According to the newsletter I should be able to order one of my models in stainless steel or bronze (NOT only Ringpoems, am I right?).

I logged into my account, to order one of my models, but there is still the "Ringpoem only" restriction.

What should I do to order one of my designs before the 31st of March?

I suppose I logged in to Shapeways immediately in order to get one, after reading the first 3-4 lines...

Awww (cry), I want to order my Rat and Dragon in steel, and some of those awesome geometric shapes too. Plastic is ok, but metal is better! WOOT!

Can I volunteer for the beta? I think I got $150 to spare for a metal rat. I should pose him like "The Thinker". That would be Awesome!
