He's also lucky that so far Mojang hasn't complained over IP issues. They seem easy going, but the more successful his shop is the more they might be tempted to go all Games Workshop on him, or demand a cut.

I have actually tried to contact Mojang a couple of times, but I'm yet to get a reply. They do seem to be pretty relaxed about this kind of stuff, as you said, theres a lot of people out there making a lot of money from minecraft. Whether its from servers, video series or creating unofficial products (search for minecraft on etsy!), I'm certainly not the first to be doing this kind of thing. Theres plenty of people who have 3D printed and sold minecraft things before I started too, ie Minetoys and those guys who take data from the actual game levels and print out sections of terrain.
I understand your concern though.
