Excellent news ! Wonderful ! I'll fill the service box guys right away !
A quick question about the email format: Should all info be in the subject line, or should model info be in the email body ? And without any confirmation this seems prone to mistakes and confusion. Will it be visible to us or the customer in anyway if a model has been tagged ? (perhaps a simple category or tag, which only Shapeways can add/edit ?)
Hi Stijn,
The remaining info can be in the body of the mail. Good point on the feedback loop there. will look into that for I don't have a solution for it now. will come back to it. Peter Paul
[...] these additional free add-ons [...]
This will be done as a test for 2 months or as long as supplies last. Enjoy
What do you want to know from them?
Sizes .....etc? Let me know and I will see what I can do or what else I can provide
I'd like to know exactly what I'm working with. What if we don't want it to hang from the top but slightly lower, but don't want to interfere with the rest of the ear ring? What's the maximum clearance needed to close the o ring? Whats the maximum length of the hole for o ring to go through? The diameter must be at least 1.3 but an inch long tube with a 1.3 hole wouldn't allow the o ring to be inserted and closed. But what if I make the hole a Taurus shaped hole, at the same diameter as the o ring but say cut in half. Would that work? Or would it have to be closer to a quarter circle? Would I be able to make an earring designed to go around the hook, and be assembled that way, in the email should we (more can we) include an image of how the hook should be attached? I know I'm being difficult, but you should expect that from me by now
Hi, thanks for the additional info via the mail... that helps to understand... but man why so difficult
I don't have a solid solution for you right now. I do agree with you that this might become very relevant and thus I'll definitely look into it and if you see solutions please feel free to share. The goals of this whole test run is to learn. Your feedback is a good heads-up so thanks for that and keep them coming. For now, if you as shop owners want to benefit from this to the max I would stick to earrings or hangers that will fit any of the above pictures
Sizes in the sketch would help. Like in blueprints, full info to build the part, without doubts: radius, thickness, distances... for example, you mention min hole for the earring is 1.3 diameter but no info about max tube thickness (or in other words, diameter of the hole in the o-ring).
will the earrings be bundled and priced as pairs or must the customer buy two?
If you have included 2 hangers in you file they will be added to both.
This, to me, is the most user-friendly for any consumer. this promotional offer is for all products (earrings and necklace hangers) so also for product from the Co-Creator platform Peter Paul
I think some shop owners would want to add some renders of their products with the earring. Could you provide a 3D file or at least some images over graph paper to model it?
I sent you guys an email when you originally posted this and said the service would begin in JUNE, then ordered one of my pendants. I assume then that I WON'T be getting a necklace with it since you now say it will begin in JULY... This, then, would appear to show the problem with Shapeways NOT informing us somehow that our email has been received and/or the product now being available to order with the necklace...
Glenn
You're right, I noticed it just now, after I plucked the shopowner email from my junk box O:-)
note: You will receive no notification once your model is tagged. Sending the mail will suffice. This service will start by June.
I assume this was a mistake ? As the mail was sent on June 17th. But it does show, that a one-way system is not practical
Hi Glenn,
Good point, I'll look into the option to setup a gallery of all models that can be ordered as a final product. Once you have submitted your model via the mail it can be made available in this gallery. this will inform you the model is added. Cheers Peter Paul
Good idea. And I have just sent you an email regarding my previous comment. Thanks.
Glenn

Here is the reference part. STL format so it should be OK for most programs. If you need a specific format, let me know.
I don't know if it's just me but in firefox it sends me to a blank page, and in IE it says info instead of download, and the info button does nothing.
That was the problem with the download button in IE, but in FF IE and Chrome, while logged in, sends me to a blank page. with address http://www.shapeways.com/modules/udesign/utils/open3dpart.php?id=131254&f=131254.zip
Same problem here, I get a blank page here : http://www.shapeways.com/modules/udesign/utils/open3dpart.php?id=131254&f=131254.zip
FF latest
I also cannot download the file. Chrome gives a blank page, instead of downloading a zip.
We are working on this apparently the is a technical issue.
I'll post here when it's working normal again. Sorry for the inconvenience!! Peter Paul
Hi Guys it's working again!
Remember to log in before you can download! http://www.shapeways.com/model/131254/earring_hook_reference_part.html
Also, for the *Necklace*, as seen on the picture above. one half of the lock (steel cylinder) needs to pass through that hole. The shortest half of the cylinder is 10mm long. So if your hole is bent (like a truncated torus shape) make sure that a cylinder of 3x10mm can go through it with some clearance, for our guys to happily put it through for you.
Man I didn't think of that one
Hi Guys
The gallery with the models you have asked us to tag is made available here. http://www.shapeways.com/co-creator_platform/earring_and_necklaces Please check if you model is in this gallery. There is plenty of room so I you have more ..... bring it on Make sure you follow the design spec's (on top!)
So... what now, whats the status?
If we have new models we want to be shipped with earring hooks, is it possible? Is there an additional cost now that the 2 month period is over? Is there going to be a better way to add the necklace/hook option, so we dont have to do the whole emailing thing? What's going to happen with the models we've already uploaded and had tagged as earring/necklace?
Is it possible to give the shop-owners a 3d file for these objects. That way we can all build our designs around them. We wont have to worry about clearances and tolerances if we can build it to spec.
Or maybe some guidelines or standard measurements on how to build these parts ourselves so we can make our own custom earring posts. |
