He doesn’t look so cuddly made out of steel!
I have a Bowie and I would have thought he was too thin to print out of steel?
Yeah, I was a bit surprised also. From real close up photo’s such as this one you can really see that some details need to be clearer for them to work in steel. The material really looks cool but there is texture and this might swallow up some detail.
Thanks for buying the model 🙂
it seems to me that steel has a much bigger grain ( korrel) then WSF has.
Is this true?
The thickness should be save enough to be made out of steel, the thickness is about 1mm on most places. A steel tube of 1 mm thickness can’t be broken or flattened. Ofcourse this material is a bit more brittle, but the shape would compensate for the loss is strength.
Joris, are you sure this is a print out of the small version? I have seen that the 200% version suddenly has alot more printing options then the normal sized one.

It seems strange to me, because I can’t think of any other reason then that you guys and gals have tested out the 200% version and found it to be okay.
Cheers,
Rob
Rob,
It is not so much the grain. If you look at pictures of the Moebius ants and some of the other models you should see that they can be much smoother.
But, because the model is polished, things that are easier to polish would tend to become smoother. So intricate surface detailing would be a bit more limited in metal but an unobstructed sphere like surface would become much more smooth.
For an example of this, check out the Nosepicker pictures: http://www.shapeways.com/blog/archives/244-Metal-3D-printed-nosepicker.html
and compare those with Bowie.
I’m pretty sure that this is the small one and then we OK’ed the larger once since this would print as well. I will check however.
Dag Joris,
Indeed, Nosepicker is alot more smooth.
I thought this was unpolished…
The sterling silver material, is it fully made of real silver?
Cause now it looks like the silver is the cheapest material, which is strange..
But I am not sad about it :p
Cheers,
Rob
Rob,
The Silver material is full silver. It is more expensive than the Stainless Steel but we are currently not offering the Silver.
Joris
Dag Joris,
I am going over the materials that are being offered on my 200% bowie the bunny, and there is a material called clear and bendable.
I don’t find it in any other model…
An error?
I would check out all material settings, I think there are too many possible options:

Lets hope no other model has the same errors…
Cheers,
Rob
Rob,
Was human error, I corrected it. Clear & Bendable is the material we use for our Stampmakers.
