New Faster & Cheaper Shipping Option for US Customers: Introducing USPS First-Class Shipping at $4.99

Posted by in New Features

Our goal at Shapeways is to make 3D printing more accessible and affordable. So we’re excited to share that starting today, customers in the US can now have products delivered by United States Postal Service First-Class for a flat rate of $4.99, with expected transit time of 1-3 business days.

This is a faster, cheaper option that will hopefully make 3D printing even more affordable, whether you’re prototyping or getting a gift for a loved one. USPS also offers some unique benefits, including delivery to PO Boxes or to properties where entrance by private carriers is limited or prohibited. You’ll be able to track your package and gleefully watch as it leaves our NYC factory and make its way to your front door.

For our friends across the globe, we haven’t forgotten about you! We are committed to offering the best choices to our customers, wherever you are. But we are also committed to moving very quickly, which sometimes requires us to take baby steps, especially for something like shipping which varies so greatly by country. So hang tight and keep sharing your feedback.

I was very excited about this change, but unfortunately it looks like your shipping engine still doesn’t support FPO/APO/DPO addresses, which for shipping purposes ARE US addresses, though we may be overseas.
So I guess it leaves us with the option of shipping to family or a third-party shipping service and having them reship to us, increasing the time until we get our products exponentially. I’m looking forward to a more robust zip code authentication system or a way for us to manually submit an order.

      Hi Tabitha,

we are now supporting Fleet Post Offices, Army Post Offices & Diplomatic Post Offices, which is exactly what you meant right?

      best,

Yay! Finally!! I was getting sick and tired of UPS always delivering my boxes to the wrong place. Not to mention them bashing the boxes flat.

Hooray! Shapeways packages are so light, it seems absurd to send them across the country in a truck, which is UPS ground. My packages were taking up to 5 business days just to ship to me. USPS 1st class goes by air, I think. The only disadvantage is that it isn’t tracked.

Actually, we do use USPS Tracking™ for USPS.

My shipments are received i at Babylon, Long Island, NY. I believe you ship from Long Island City, NY. Any shipping advantage with the 1-3 days shipping as mentioned above?

Hey Ed, can you clarify what you mean?
