Our Factory of the Future in Long Island City has been under construction since October and we’re getting close to the finishing touches. As well as being the place we create your models, we want the Factory to be a showcase of your talent too!
Ben, our Lead Industrial Engineer explains our latest contest:
We’re thrilled to announce that multi award-winning designer and typographer Craig Ward, will be our judge. His work blurs the lines between typography, illustration and installation and he has done some incredible projects. We know the the possibilities of 3D printing let your imagination run wild, so he’s the perfect partner to judge our contest.
To help you out with some inspiration, head over to Craig’s website or check out his book, Popular Lies About Graphic Design. The prize? $200 in Shapeways printing credits and eternal fame as your design will live forever in our factory.

If you have any questions please ask them in the comments section below.
Are they individual use bathrooms or do they have multi-user capacity? I’m guessing that since they have door nobs they are for individual use but then again who knows what weirdness can result from NYC regulatory codes.
MrNib, they are multi-user. So its “Women” rather than “Woman” – good clarification!
Thanks for the info. The designs could be different for restrooms with multiple stalls, I guess. I will need to ponder this issue further. This contest is ripe for creative output.
There is no video in the blog post.
The video is there – if you see only a big black rectangle you might have an issue with the
javascript or flash support in your browser (or have javascript switched off or blocked intentionally).
As usual, the video is also available in shapeways’ “channel” on youtube.
“Must meet WSF design criteria” – Does that mean they will only be printed in WHITE or can we use the other colours?
You can design for the colors too, but please note that the size restrictions are smaller.
“…it must be able to hang on the wall or the door.”
Does this mean that it has to hang on a hook? Or can it be glued to the door?
The idea was like a flash :p
I hope u like it ! http://shpws.me/p7WE
Im a little late to the party. but, i have a question.
Will the wall and door be painted a contrasting color? Or are they staying white?
Also, do both signs need to fit into one print or can each sign be a separate file?
I.e if I want one purple and one black, you get the idea.. Thank you!
I think it is Very useful and valuable post. Thanks for sharing with us.
Good Evening, I will could provide the dimensions of the doors of the bathroom?

In your factory there exists a bathroom for disabled guests??
