Take a look at existing posts to get an idea of the tone and the length of the posts along with quality of images. There is so much going on around Shapeways 3D Printing we need help to capture it all and spread the word.
We are looking for regular contributors that can post consistent, interesting posts that will entertain, educate and engage the thousands of people who read the Shapeways Blog every day...
For every person who attempts to use a technology such as 3D Printing for a weapon (and whether the journalistic hype surrounding the drama actually meets reality), there are hundreds of thousands of people who use 3D Printing for something creative such as the iShooter, a 3D Printable ring stabilizer for the iPhone and iPad.. No more shaky videos and may even be handy for some gyroscope based driving/flying games (not first person shooters)...

Possibly the most advanced 3D Print ever to hit Shapeways from browser based 3D modeling software Tinkercad is the Brewster Station by emmyceru AKA Emily AKA Cat Girl.... Simply amazing... And yes, this is a photograph....
Emily based her 3D Model on a photograph from the 1930's of Brewster station from a postcard from the collection of Steve Swirsky and also visited the site to get more of the details.
In what must have been an epic feat of 3D modeling endurance (especially for a first 3D modeling project) Emily assembled the model brick by brick in Tinkercad with amazing precision and stunning results.
Congratulations to Emily on what is a fantastic first effort at 3D modeling, we hope it inspires others to play with Tinkercad and other free 3D modeling tools and start 3D Printing their designs for real. You can see more images and get more info on her blog, I Ride the Harlem Line....

"Last week I visited the future, and it's in 3D" Richard Gottlieb, Global Toy News
Last week we had the pleasure of a few toy experts visiting the Shapeways office to come and talk about the potential of 3D printing toys now, and in the near future. One of our visitors was Richard Gottlieb who is publishing a two-part article on his blog with his thinking coming out of the meeting and how he thinks it might affect the toy industry.
Take a look at his posts and let us know what YOU think 3D printing will do to the toy industry and who will make the most of it?
Do you want to sip high tea from the Teeth Tea Cup 3D Printed in Ceramics by Shapeways?
On Proper Usage and Inhibited Ingestion: Why is it that we find the cup so unappetizing? Could it have originated from survival tactics where we relate our proximity to another's teeth as a threat of life, a reminder of predator and prey, poison and contamination? Is this object then successful in its design to prevent gluttonous behavior should food and drink only be offered in the cup? more information at Lily Su's site.
Last night at the Hotel Rivington Shapeways celebrated our 4 year anniversary! Thank you to our amazing community for supporting us this far!
Amid drinks and snacks, everybody had fun in the awesome photo booth from Oh Snap Smile!

Last night HUGE NYC hosted a panel on 3D Printing featuring Shapeways, MakerBot and Gothamsmith.
There was a great turnout at HUGE's huge offices in DUMBO and the discussion was a perfect balance of desktop DIY 3D Printer action with MakerBot, 3D Printing service and marketplace with Shapeways and Gothamsmith representing independent designers using online 3D printing to handle their e-commerce, production and distribution (via Shapeways). The discussion covered the way in which online 3D printing services and desktop 3D printers compliment each other in different use case scenarios taking into account speed, quality, cost, size, scalability, materials, expertise and even onto the notion of a peer to peer 3D printer node based giant T-Rex flashmob in Times Square.....
Dreams and internet memes aside it was a great discussion that we are sure to continue in the future.
A massive thanks to HUGE for hosting the event and inviting us to participate.
If you want to learn to Design for 3D Printing and you are in NYC then we have a range of classes to get you started over the next couple of weeks. Come along and try your hand at making your ideas for real with 3D printing in a relaxed, friendly environment..

This weeks Designer Spotlight focuses on Dario Scapitta, an Italian jewelry designer living in the Netherlands.
Tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? Where are you located?

One year ago I thought to myself, it's time to think about my own ideas and designs. I thought that Shapeways was a nice place to start to produce and testing my designs. I like that I am able to experiment and test ideas and new materials.
There is not enough space here for my list! Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Leonardo da Vinci, Picasso Salvador Dali, Andy Warhol, Giorgio Armani, Santiago Calatrava, Renzo Piano, Kusuma Yayoj.
We had a great time at the Solidworks User Group NYC thanks to Matt Rohr for inviting us to come along, drink beer, eat pizza and talk 3D modeling with engineers, artists and experts at the VERY cool Kingsland Design & Engineering Lab.. We talked a little about how good Solidworks is for outputting 3D models for 3D Printing with Shapeways. Some had already used Shapeways in the past such as Mary Wallis for her sculptural lighting works...
If you have a group you would like us to come and talk to please let us know, we are always happy to meet more people interested in making their ideas real with 3D Printing.

Yet another interesting Kickstarter project with a little 3D Printed love in it's heart is CONSTRVCT by Continuum Fashion of the 3D Printed N12 Bikini fame.
CONSTRVCT is truly interactive, user generated fashion. It's a web-based collection where you can make your own designs. Turn photos into beautifully distinctive styles. We make your design with digital textile printing and sew it in your size in the highest quality. Every design is uniquely made to order.
There are all sorts of awesome rewards for your pledges suitable for both ladies and gentlemen both, so get behind customized fashion...
Good luck Mary & Jenna...
