The Kapsule Lightstand by Pieco is everything that you need to make your Kindle complete. It's the highest quality reading light available, and it gets its power straight from the Kindle. It has a slide-out kickstand for hands-free reading, and it provides a comfortable ergo-style grip for long reading sessions.
Vienna University of Technology unveiled their prototype for the world's smallest 3D printer in May this year developed by Klaus Stadlmann and Markus Hatzenbichler. Klaus recently presented the micro-printer at TEDx Vienna, on crutches..
Thanks to all who came to the Shapeways NYC 3D Printing Meetup, it was inspiring to meet so many new people interested in creating their own products with 3D printing. From jewelers and architects to animators and software designers. Birch Coffee was a great venue but we may need to find somewhere a little bigger for the next one as it was getting really crowded before last drinks were called and we dispersed into the New York night.
Visit the Shapeways Meetup page to find where and when our next 3D printing Meetup will be to meet people in your area.
Fret not, Shapies. Though the deadline has passed to guarantee pre-holiday delivery, we've got your back. You can now get a Shapeways Digital Gift Card and give your friends and family access to the latest 3D printed creations, which they can personalize to perfection.
The gift card is available in increments of $25, $50 or $100 and will arrive in your email inbox within 24 hours of purchase. You can then email it directly or print it out, and perhaps decorate with glitter pens for the very special recipients.
The credit is applicable to anything on the site, so you can recommend an awesome iPhone cover from the Gift Guide for your Hipster coworker, share the gift of creation with the Sake Set Creator, or encourage your architect buddy to use his CAD skills to make his own stuff.
Shapeways community member and mathematician Henry Segerman was recently interviewed on BBC Radio show Outriders about mathematical shapes and their transference to the physical world as sculpture via 3D printing. Listen to the interview, check out Henry's site and ponder visualizations of a multi dimension universe. You may remember Henry's Hilbert Curve 3D print (pictured below), and Knotted Kog. Henry is a research fellow at the University of Melbourne doing research in 3-dimensional geometry and topology, particularly involving ideal triangulations.
Our friends at UPS have introduced a new service that will allow you to have a little more control over how and when your Shapeways 3D prints are delivered.
As a UPS My Choice Member you can reschedule, redirect, or give authorization online for UPS to deliver packages without a signature when you won't be home to sign in person = no more missed deliveries. You'll always get the most up-to-date information about UPS deliveries without the need for tracking numbers.
Want to get together and talk all things 3D printing with other Shapeways users in NYC? Join us on Tuesday December 13 at Birch Coffee for coffee/wine and bring your 3D prints, examples of post production or questions about 3D Printing. Join us upstairs in the Birch Coffee Library at 7pm and be sure to RSVP via Meetup so that we can reserve enough space. We are looking forward to seeing you there.
Where: Birch Coffee, Upstairs, 5 East 27th Street, Manhattan, NY
As the end of the year fast approaches and time seems to accelerate to some kind of holiday induced singularity the chance to order 3D printed gifts for family and friends is closing fast. Visit the Holiday Planning Page for all details but those in Europe and North America have until December 9th to get orders in the remaining materials while those in the rest of the world have unfortunately now missed the deadline of December 4th. If you have missed the window of opportunity you can still get a Gift Certificate for the prefect last minute gift. More on that soon.
Believe it or not, December is upon us, which means it's time to pull out those ugly sweaters and stop by the gym a couple more times before holiday gluttony commences. It also means that you only have a couple days left to order custom made gifts for your friends and family. Depending on where you call home, today might be the last day by which we can promise to deliver products made from some of the more involved materials. Check out our holiday planning page for all the details.
On Tuesday 29th of November in front of a capacity crowd of over 800 of New York's tech community at NYU Skirball Center, VP of Engineering and in house magician Josh Levine pulled some 3D magic out of his hat, literally.
