Oh you nylon materials, sometime you're so perfect. Sure, you may not have the wow factor of silver, or the homeyness of ceramics, but sometimes your simplicity and versatility can be downright striking. The designers featured in Friday Finds this week have proven that much!
If you're looking for more 3D printed awesome (in all sorts of materials) swing by the "It Arrived" section of the forums. Happy Friday!
After all the stimulus overload at DDW, we're feeling a bit of a withdrawal here at Shapeways. We had an incredible time meeting thousands of community members, designers, artists, and of course, the steady stream of locals who are lucky to call Eindhoven their home.
It was incredibly energizing to see everyone's excitement about personal manufacturing and 3D printing, from potters who were awestruck by the new and improved ceramics to the woman I met who was looking at a key necklace and was thrilled that she can now print a custom key for her rackety antique dresser. After seeing the creative wheels turn among 3D designers and non-techies alike, we're looking forward to the designs inspired by the show.
Custom jewelry design at your finger tips with iRing3D by Paracloud and Shapeways 3D Printing.
iRing3D is an app for iPad by Paracloud, allowing everyone to design and fabricate rings. You don't need to have any 3D CAD skills to design your own ring. Simply sketch the ring design with your fingertip, control the size and shape, and upload directly to Shapeways to 3D print in your choice of materials.
A few weeks ago, we announced the relaunch of ceramics. During the past few months, we've been working hard to take all the feedback learned during the initial ceramics trial and feedback it back into the process. First, our production partners have been working very hard and refining the glazing process. Glazing was one area where we received the most feedback on during the trial, so we made sure to get this right. Today, we received our first batch of prints and check out the quality difference from before and after the relaunch of ceramics. Check out the quality improvements:
Second, I'm happy to announce that our production partners have found a new facility that can support more machines, and a growing team. This means orders can be produced quicker. Check out the happy new team below!
Wong Wong enlisted the help of Shapeways community member and 3D Ninja Dotsan to realize the first in a series of trophies recognizing the best & worst of football.
The Best Dive Trophy is to be awarded to the player who is judged to have executed the art of 'The Dive' and successfully deceives the referee. The Worst Tackle Trophy goes to the player that executes the dirtiest tackle against an opposing player.
Panoramic photography creates fascinating images. Very wide angle images are closer to the human field of view than conventional pictures. If seen through a panoramic viewer they let us experience a location as if we were there. Panoramic image stitching can create panoramas from pictures taken one after another. Unfortunately, acquiring the images takes a lot of time and moving objects may cause ghosting. It is also difficult to obtain a full spherical panorama, because the downward picture cannot be captured while the camera is mounted on the tripod.
In this work, we present a throwable panoramic camera that solves these problems. The camera is thrown into the air and captures an image at the highest point of flight - when it is hardly moving. The camera takes full spherical panoramas, requires no preparation and images are taken instantaneously. It can capture scenes with many moving objects without producing ghosting artifacts and creates unique images.
