Well it seems the Objet printers we use for Black, White and Transparent detail are now capable of printing Bio-Compatible Materials..
Objet Bio-Compatible material (MED610™) is a rigid material featuring great dimensional stability and colorless transparency. The material is ideal for applications requiring prolonged skin contact of over 30 days and short term mucosal-membrane contact of up to 24 hours. Objet Bio-Compatible material has 5 medical approvals including Cytotoxicity, Genotoxicity, Delayed Type Hypersensitivity, Irritation and USP Plastic Class VI*
As you can imagine the cleaning process of the machines and parts is quite intensive to ensure all toxic nastiness is removed from machines and prints, but still kinda cool… So, what would YOU do if you had access to this material?
Hiya,
This has been an avenue I have been researching for a medical design. It isn’t easy finding somewhere cheap to prototype in this arena, having to sometimes opt for a ‘substandard’ material which would then need to be sterilised to the point of damaging the structure.
It isn’t always the issue of the material ‘standard’ itself, but also the handling and storage conditions to avoid extraneous deposition of possible contagions/allergens/toxins (don’t sneeze!).
Personally, if this material came online I would use it instead of the casting and forming I have to do now.
Cheers,
Luis.

Heya, Use a zilplock bag.. woks a treat
Our company is looking into prototyping medical devices. That would make the whole process much easier. We could easily provide customised medical devices, based on 3d scanning techniques.
